GREAT NEWS FOR CHARLESTON

The good news of Boeing coming to Charleston has a positive feel in the air. It’s always exciting to hear of new business coming to the area.  In the future we have many positives and I am looking forward to great years ahead!

The weather, coast and beaches draw people to want to live here in the “Lowcountry”

New Year’s Day

I don’t know about you, but taking the decorations down, cooking the New Year’s meal and watching (listening) to football is the day! I’ve loved having our decorations up and our tree was still alive (thanks No Hassle Trees) when coming down.  This year as in the past year we had a train going around the bottom and the grandchildren and guests loved it.

My Mother always made pork tenderloin or roast, black eyed peas, collard greens , stewed apples and cornbread for the evening meal. It was thought by her that this would help to be a good year! There are many superstitions to this day, but I am still doing it.

The weather is reminding me of why I love Charleston-Mt Pleasant because this is northen weather and after living in Kentucky I don’t miss the cold. I love seeing snow for a couple days, but the drive to Ashville isn’t far and then back here. The sun comes out and that makes such a difference in our attitude.

Well it’s back working and that’s a good thing!

BUYING NOW OR LATER

For the 1st time homebuyer now is the time. The deadline is the end of November and you really want to close before Thanksgiving because there is no extension. First talk with a qualified lender and I have some on my site who would be glad to help. They will tell you what you can afford and if you qualify for the credit.  After feeling good about what you can afford then we can meet and go over your needs, wants and dreams. There is a lot of inventory and you need to have guidance along the way, so give me a call.  When we do find the dream home, then I give you a step by step in writing of what is next and we stay with you the whole way.  There are so many new laws from lending to appraisals to closings that having experience with you is needed.

Grandchildren and moving

I remember before having grandchildren and hearing people say they were moving to be close to grandchildren and thinking it was nice, but now that I have 4 under 6 I can tell you that it is the most fun, exciting thing to see them, watch them grow and all the other things that go along with being close.

The fun excursions we take here in Charleston like the parks, the aquarium, walking around downtown or just walking in our neighborhood. There is always an adventure. One thing to do is take Amtrak to Savannah. We had taken our oldest two and now need to go again because one more has gotten to where he is older and wanting to go. We rode down a two hour trip hearing the whistle, stopping and going car to car. We arrived and spent the night downtown then went to the train musuem, had lunch on a caboose, walked everywhere then back on the train for dinner. (I remember the fancy dinners we had as children) well that has changed. It still was a thrill for them and a great “Memory maker” .

So now I know it’s fun to be close to the grands!

PIMENTO CHEESE – Southerners Delight

As I write this I remember living in other places and never seeing or hearing about “pimento cheese”. Being in Charleston now 22 years, it’s a staple at my home. we love it on hamburgers, hotdogs, on crackers or just grilled. This is a great recipe and I thought I’d share it. It actually comes from a Kentucky cookbook, so enjoy

1- 7oz. diced and drained pimentos

4 cups sharp cheddar (i like to grate mine)

8 oz cream cheese

1 Tbsp Worchestire sauce

Mayonnaise to the smoothness you like

Grandchildren

Today is a special day, my oldest grandson turns “6″. It seems like yesterday that we were at the hospital waiting for him. Time goes by so fast and we are enjoying every minute of it. If your grandchildren love trains, the hobby shop in West Ashley has a great selection of trains, parts and lots of other fun things. A great little fun thing to do! Who’d think we’d have a train in our guestroom!

A fun little getaway

If you haven’t been to Memphis, Tennessee and love music this is on the list. Make sure you visit Sun Records. It’s on the Historical Registry and to think that Elvis, Johhny Cash and many others made their debut there is unbelievable. We bought a great CD that was a jam session with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and one other famous musician made on December 4, 1956. It’s only sold there and great fun. Beale Street is just full of live music and bars (young ones love it and even the old ones of us who love music). Oh and then there’s barbeque, my husband was in heaven and we tried different ones on Friday and Saturday. Rendezvous is in a basement and is catering the debate in Oxford, Miss this week-end. Just a fun place to walk through also.
